Proof of Identity: Bridging the Gap Between Maiden and Married Names
QuestionHi my wife after getting married has taken my surname (as traditionally the bride takes the husbands surname) so all her documents and utility bills are all in her new married name. However her university and college certificates and awards are all in her old maiden name. How can one now prove to employers when they ask for her certificates that her educational certificates (which are in her old maiden name) are linked to the same person who has now got a married name ?
Please can you help ASAP
AnswerDear Hamzah,
I am not a lawyer so this is not my area of expertise. I have done this personally in the USA by providing my past schools with a marriage certificate or change of name form. Contact the universities and ask what they require for the two names to be tied together.
