Question-------------------------
Followup To can u tell me what toxicplasmosis is.. and can it effect my baby?
Question -
i wanted to know if when u are pregnant should u stay away from cats and why?
Answer -
This depends.
Being around cats is really okay it is changing their liter that you want to avoid unless you have been tested for toxicplasmosis or if you have been around cats your whole life you are probably immune. If you have to change the liter it is best to wear gloves and a mask then wash your hands. Good luck
Answer I sure can. First let me correct the spelling, I managed to spell it wrong the first time some how. It is toxoplasmosis.
Only one in 1000 women are believed to become infected while pregnant. (source is "What to expect while your expecting" a great book)
What it can do to the fetus is some what complicated so it would be to hard to try to explain it here.
Different things can happen at different stages in pregnacy.
This would be best explained by your Dr. Good luck to you.
