QuestionHi, I have 3 questions please! I am 32 and 36 weeks pregnant.
1. Do babies "blow bubbles" in the womb? Today I had an ultrasound and there was a bubble looking thing outside the baby's mouth. Have you seen anything like this? Could there be something wrong?
2. Will herpes antibodies still pass to my baby in the womb if I start taking Valtrex now for suppression? (I know my baby is not completely protected by antibodies) Will the Valtrex inhibit the antibodies from passing?
3. Will my baby get antibodies even if I don't have an outbreak?
Thank you!
AnswerFrom now until a few weeks after birth, the baby has your antibodies against Herpes. If you have any outbreaks, you should be treated but the baby will be safe. If, at the time you go into labor, you notice any lesions, the baby should be delivered by cesarean section in order to prevent passage down the birth canal. However, if there are no herpetic lesions seen while you are in labor, the baby can be delivered vaginally and there is no reason to suspect that the baby will be more prone to contract any herpes simplex infection. The baby has your antibodies, at this time. It does not develop its own antibodies unless it is exposed to an antigen (usually after birth). I do not know what the "bubble" could have been. There is no air in the womb.
