Early Pregnancy Symptoms: What to Expect & When to Worry

Question
Hi
I am 33, this is my first pregnancy and the date of my LMP was March 14th. I had my pregnancy confirmed by my doctor at 5 1/2 weeks and the only symptoms I had for the first 7 weeks were sore breasts and a bloated stomach.  This week the soreness in my breasts has disappered and I'm not nearly as bloated as I was, am I still pregnant? Can the doctor confirm either way without a scan? (I will have to go to the hospital for that).
Thanks

Answer
If your last period started on March 14, you are now 8 weeks and 4 days. Certainly, a sonogram will, by now, show a fetua and a fetal heartbeat. If you have not had any vaginal bleeding, there is not reason to suspect that you had a miscarriage , even though your breasts are not sore and you are not as bloated. As long as you are not bleeding, I would wait another two weeks. At 10 weeks, the doctor may be able to sometimes hear the heartbeat with an office doppler machine and you will be reassured. Of course, if you want a sonogram to have peace of mind, it will confirm if you are still pregnant, at this time.
