Post-Miscarriage Bleeding & Bloating: What Could It Be?

Question
I had a micarriage back in Oct of 2009. I went to the doctor last month cuz I was really sick and I couldnt keep anything down. I was also 6 days late for my period. She took a urine test and told me that I wasnt pregnant. My period finally came on amd it started with lightspot and then it got really heavy. Now two weeks later, im spotting again and my stomach is really bloatedd. Could I be pregnant anyway?

Answer
Dear Shirelle,

I would suspect that you are not pregnant. If you had a regular period two weeks ago, this spotting and bloating is likely related to ovulation. Typically when women have some spotting in the middle of the cycle, it is related to ovulation rather than a pregnancy. During a woman's menstrual cycle, there are two estrogen drops - the first drop is right before the the egg is
released from the ovary (ovulation) and the second drop happens if the egg is not fertilized, thus inducing a period.  Menstrual bleeding - a period - happens during the second drop in estrogen. In some women, though, the first estrogen drop appears to trigger bleeding, too. This mid-cycle, ovulation bleeding is usually light and brief and can be pink, red, or brown in color.

However, I would suggest that - unless you are trying to become pregnant - you look into some form of birth control so that you don't have this continual fear with every cycle. Stress can affect our cycles as well, believe it or not, so you don't want to add another one on top of all the everyday stresses we all have. :)

I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
