Prometrium Ineffectiveness & Irregular Periods: Seeking Medical Advice

Question
Age 29, 1 child, April 9

I have been trying to conceive since Oct. 2003. My periods have been irregular since last year (after stopping Depro Provera in Jan. 2003). My doctor prescribed Provera, which brought down my period 4/9/04 (and it lasted 12 days). I haven't had a period since, just spotting everyday since May 9. My doctor then prescribed Prometrium 200mg to induce my period, which I took from May 24 - May 30. My doctor wants blood work done on the 3rd and 23rd day of my period, then maybe fertility pills. The problem is that I still haven't gotten my period, but the spotting stopped 6/5/04. I am desperately trying to get pregnant. Any suggestions on what to do next to help conceive?

Answer
If the spotting stopped on June 5, wait to see if you get a normal period this month. If not, try the Provera again (10mg twice a day for 5 days). When you get your period, you may have to go on birth control pills for a few months until you have regulated your period once again. DepoProvera can really mess up ones cycle. It can cause irregular periods and bleeding for many months after you stop the shots. I know that you are trying to conceive, but until you are having regular periods, you will not be ovulating on a regular basis and will be frustrated. Go on the birth control pills for 4-6 months and then stop and try to conceive, once again.
