Wisdom Teeth Removal & Fertility: Can Conception Be Delayed?
QuestionHi Dr Rappaport,
My name is Nicole. I am 27yrs old and I have no children. My last period was Aug 29. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for the last few months. Today I found out that I need to have 3 wisdom teeth pullled pronto. The soonest appt I could get was Sept. 12. I believe this is when my ovulation will be occurring. My question is, is it okay to try and conceive a few days prior to the dental work and right after? I will be receiving novacaine and I'm sure I'll need to take an antibiotic. I am allergic to PNC. Thank You.
AnswerYou can safely have dental work performed if you are trying to conceive or are already pregnant. You can safely have anesthesia and antibiotics during pregnancy. However, the dentist knows to ask if you are pregnant and not to use Tetracycline during pregnancy. You can use any anesthesia during pregnancy and during your attempts to conceive. Don't worry.
