Stress-Free Pregnancy: Tips & Support for First-Time Moms

Question
Hello. My name is Teighlor. I am 20 years old, and this is my first child. I just found out a week ago that I am 6 weeks pregnant. I lead a very stressful life, and realize that this is not good for me or my baby to be. I am all alone in this. No one family to support, and the father got scared and left me. So, this has been very frustrating as you can see. I want to be the best mom that I can be, but I do know that I will make mistakes here and there, and that I am not perfect. I have been really stressed out the past week and would like to know what things I could do to relax. I have been  walking, reading, listening to soft mellow music, long hot baths...it seems like nothing is working. Please help me. I need advice. I don't have anyone to talk to about this. Please help!

Answer
Pregnancy is not a disease. You can do all the things the you usually do whether you are pregnant or not, except smoking, drinking, or drug use. Try to relax and realize that the baby will be fine and that you will be a good mother. There is no training to become a mother. Suddenly the baby is born and you will handle it fine. You are already doing the right things (walking, reading, bathing). Exercise as much as you'd like. Run, jog, play games (tennis, bowling, etc). No scuba diving or sky diving. Eat whatever you like but try not to gain more than 4lbs per month, for a total of 30 lbs. Avoid Aspirin, Motrin, Advil or Ibuprofen. For heatburn take Mylanta, Maalox, Digel, Tums, etc. Try to eat little meals throughout the day. If you feel nauseated, try just crakers and Ginger Ale. If you have any questions at any time, just ask me. Just enjoy the pregnancy and stop worrying.
