QuestionHello, I am almost 32. I just had my second son Dec. 2nd and he is almost 7 months old. I believe that my last period was in April of 2003. I am nursing my son and I have not yet started my period again, not even a sign of it. I took a home pregnancy test a month ago but it was negative. Is it normal for my period to take this long to return? With my first son, who's 5 years old, I started my period again after about 4 months.
AnswerIt is not unusual to miss your period for up to a year after you stop nursing. Usually, while you are nursing you will not get your period. Sometimes, however, you will return to a regular cycle by 8 weeks post partum. Once you stop nursing, your period will return. If it does not, your gynecologist can induce your period for you using Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days.
