Postpartum Round Ligament Pain: Causes, Relief & When to Worry
Questionmy 20 year old daughter had an uncomplicated c section 10 days ago. she was extremely fit exercising on the precor and treadmill 50 minutes 6 days a week up to 3 days prior to delivery. she has started walking 10-15 minutes at a time around the neighborhood. she describes a sharp pain about 1 inch medial to her hip bone, usually on the left side. this sounds like round ligament pain to me, but all info says this pain goes away after delivery. the nurse couldn't give us any information.any ideas?
thanks
AnswerIf it has only been 10 days since the cesarean section, your daughter's uterus has not returned to its normal size and the round ligaments are still "stretching" back to normal. When the uterus gets back to its normal size, she will stop having the round ligament syndrome. Since it is still less than two weeks from the surgery, she may be doing too much exercise right now and really should not do too much until her 6 weeks checkup.
