Contraception & Pregnancy Prevention: Understanding Pill Safety and Fertility
QuestionHello doctor,
Iam 25yrs old & just got married. My husband & i have decided not have a child for a couple of years. I am using a contraceptive pill(femilon: desogestrel& ethinylestradiol). What i want to know is that is it safe for my husband to not to use a condom & still ejaculate inside me?
Or what is the safe period of days when there r less chances of my getting pregnant (right after my periods, perhaps)?
AnswerIf you are taking birth control pills and take them every day, there is less than a 1% chance of becoming pregnant. If you have taken them for longer than 2 weeks since you started the pills, you do not have to use any other form of contraception and can allow your husband to ejaculate inside your vagina. While you are taking the pill, every day is safe and it is highly unlikely that you will become pregnant. If you were not taking birth control pills, and you have a normal 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. YOu can ONLY become pregnant if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. You cannot become pregnant on any other day of the month. If you are not taking the pills, your safe time of the month is every day except those days I mentioned. Obviously, you cannot become pregnant within two weeks after your period.
