IUI Progesterone Levels: Understanding Results and Next Steps

Question
I had recieved and IUI on the 11th of January using clomid, repronex and hcg. Then on the 18th they did blood work, and my progesterone was just under 30, which the doctor felt was very good. however, I went in today for more blood works, and he would only tell me that my levels are not increasing as he had hoped, and he did not want to tell me anything to give me any false hope. I have not started my period or anything as of yet, and really do not feel any symptoms that I am going to. Over the past 1 1/2 - 2 years I have had 3 miscarriages one of them was an ectopic. The other times, my hormone levels were an issue and I did take prometrium to try and help to sustain the pregnancy. What is happening? Is there anything I could be doing that I may not be?
Thank you.
Margie

Answer
It is a good sign that your progesterone level is around 30 and, as such, you probably do not need progesterone supplementation. However, if you miss your period, take two blood tests for pregnancy (Beta HCG), 48 hours apart.. If there is a doubling of the value of HCG in 48 hours, it indicates a viable pregnancy. If there is a halving of the results in 48 hours, it indicates a miscarriage. If there is a leveling off (plateau) of the value in 48 hours, you have to consider a tubal (ectopic) pregnancy. Good Luck.
