Understanding Low Progesterone Levels in Early Pregnancy (5w)

Question
I am 5w today but Wednesday I went for blood work and my progesterone levels were 5.9 and I was 4w5d, they were lower last week but the doctor said my hcg is climbing which was 7239 I am very worried or am I too early to worry?

Answer
Hello Cori from the U.S. (New York),

The decreased progesterone levels are a little worrisome but not necessarily predictive of anything.  The import thing is that the endometrial progesterone levels be adequate and there is no way to measure that.  Blood levels are not necessarily indicative of the uterine levels.  Since your bHCG's are increasing appropriately, that is the most important thing at this point.  However, it is simple for your doctor to increase your progesterone supplementation so you might want to opt for that any way.  Just ask him to do so, more for peace of mind.

Good luck,
