QuestionHi, I'm 39 w/ 3 children, 15, 3 1/2 & 2. My lmp was 11/29. I got a faint positive hpt on 12/23 and on 12/27 I had a beta of 83. The nurse kept saying it was low. I don't go back for a week for a follow up. According to the internet charts a 59 is average for 15dpo. Is this right? Do you think an 83 is low? What do you think the levels should be in one week for a viable pregnancy? Thank you for your help!
AnswerIf your last period started on November 29, then on December 27 you would have been 4 weeksi pregnant (from the first day of your LMP). The range of Beta HCG values at 4 weeks are 500-10,000. A value of 83 is very, very low, although it does indicate a very early pregnancy. The test time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your next period or at 5 weeks gestation. Since you were due for your period on December 26, I would repeat the pregnancy test (Beta HCG) on January 2. At that time you will be 5 weeks 3 days pregnant and the range should be between 10,000-100,000 BHCG. In addition, you should probably take two blood tests, 48 hours apart. If there is a doubling of the results (whatever they are) in 48 hours, it indicates a viable pregnancy. If there is a halving of the results in 48 hours, it indicates a non-viable pregnancy or a miscarriage. Good luck.
