Miscarriage Risk: Understanding Family History and Trauma

My daughter's grandmother on her father's side had many miscarriages. Her father was the only successful pregnancy. Does that put my daughter at a high risk for having miscarriages too? Her grandmother was also sexually abused as a child and I heard, but don't know if it's true, that child sexual abuse can cause miscarriages in the future. Is that true?

Your daughter's grandmother's history has no effect on your daughter. Miscarriages are not inherited and they occur in 15-20% of every pregnancy. Your daughter is not at risk for having any miscarriage due to her grandmother.Sexual abuse can only effect the ability to become pregnant or keep the pregnancy in the person that was abused. It does not affect future generations.
