Understanding Unusual Pinky Finger Curling in Pregnancy: What Could It Mean?

Question
This question is about my daughter-in-law. She is 31 and this is her first baby. She has had 2 other miscarrages. She is 19 weeks along. She had an ultrasound and they found the baby has "unusual curling of the pinky fingers" They sent her for blood test and we would like to know just what it might mean. I called my ob-gyn and the nurse has no ideal what that might mean. I hope you can help.

Answer
Often, the radiologists have a number of conditions that demonstrate "soft signs" of a problem. I have not heard of most of them and they often mean nothing in the long run. What blood test was she sent for? I would ask for a copy of the sonogram report and see what was reported. There may be some problem with the bones of the fingers, but I have never seen such a report on any sonogram I have seen before.
