QuestionQUESTION: My mother recently had an urine analysis. There were several things our of range. Can you help me decide if she needs to see a specialist? The out of range results were the following;
Clarity: Hazy
Protein QL 10
Blood: Trace
Leukocyte Essterase urine: Large
WBC: 112
RBC: 7
Bacteria: Moderate
Trans Epi Cells: 62
Squamous Cells 457
ANSWER: Hi Kathy. Is your mother having any urinary symptoms? Based on the results you listed, I'd say that your mother has a UTI (urinary tract infection). She may not need to see a specialist, unless she has recurrent UTIs. She may just need a round of antibiotics. Check with her doctor.

QUESTION: Samantha,
Thank you for your quick response. She does have UTIs fairly often. She doesn't usually know because there isn't pain with them. She does sometimes have an odor which clues her to be checked. She said she always has trouble urinating. It takes a long time. I just needed to double check one more thing. I failed to mention her chemistry blood test results that were out of range. They were the following:
Sodium: 132 L
Potassium 5.0 H
Chloride 96 L
Glucose 152 H
Creatinine 1.9 H
Calcium 8.3 L
AST 34 H
Lactic Acid 2.5 H
(Unrelated) Myoglobin 109 H
Thank you so much for your help,
Kathy
AnswerHi again, Kathy. Based on the results you've given me and tying them together, it appears your mother may have some form of kidney problem. Sodium, potassium, chloride, creatinine, lactic acid, and myoglobin are all tests, that if abnormal, can indicate kidney damage. I would recommend that your mother see her doctor further testing (blood/urine tests, x-rays, or cat scans) to find out more. Good luck.
