Pregnancy After Miscarriage: Risk Factors & Management
QuestionI am 22 and the first day of my last period was jan 6. I had a miscarriage in october 2004 at 4 months and I am now pregnant again. I found I have lupus, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome and a possible thyroid condition. Can you tell me what I can do to help prevent another. Also my blood specialist suggested that twice a day I take a blood thinner by injection in the stomach. Is that safe? Thank you
AnswerIf you have anticardiolipin antibodies and the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, as well as lupus, you should be on Lovenox throughout the pregnancy, as well as baby aspirin throughout the pregnancy. By taking these blood thinners, you will decrease the risks of msicarriage or stillbirth. They both are safe for use during pregnancy.
