Abdominal Muscle Tension During Early Pregnancy: Causes & Relief

Question
Hello Dr. Rappaport, I am 36 years old and have had IVF, with last menstrual cycle 28 days ago, I am considered 4 1/2 weeks pregnant, with two prior miscarriages. Immune testing showed no issues, but taking Lovenox 40 as precaution. Beta at day 13 was 85 and day 15 was 237. I have had abdominal muscle tension since day after starting Lovenox, which worsens as the day progresses. It feels as though I have done stomach crunches and have bloating. Sensation is from below ribs to just below belly button across my stomach. I have no cramps or other nagative symptoms. Have you heard of this with Lovenox, pregnancy or other medical reason? Thank you very much!

Answer
I have not heard of any "muscle tension" with the use of Lovenox. It is normal to have muscle tension as you describe due to the stretching of your skin as the uterus is growing. As long as you do not feel any strong cramps at the level of your belly button tht occur more than every 15 mintues and last a full 45 seconds. The bloating may be due to the intestines being pushed up and the gas inside being sequestered between the uterus and the diaphram. Take some Mylanta-gas, Simethicone, etc. and the bloating may decrease. The "tension" will eventually subside. Good luck.
