Possible Lost Tampon: What To Do & When To Worry

Question
I am 24 yrs old, have 1 child, and am currently menstruating...this is not pertaining to obstetrics...but it is gynecology. I'm not sure if I put 2 tampons in...I'm sorry it sounds gross, but I went to the bathroom and went to take my tampon out. It wasn't there, but I'm afraid it may have not had a string. So, I put another one in. It went in fine. I can't honestly remember if I put one in or not. I'm having no symptoms (no odor, pain, fever, or signs of infection) but my flow has slowed, as it always does after my 2nd day. This happened 2 days ago. Would I know if there is a tampon way "up there"? I appreciate your answer to my crazy question.

Answer
If a woman "losses" a tampon, usually (within two days) there will be a very, very rancid odor from the vagina. The only way to know for sure, if you still have a tampon in the vagina, is to go to your gynecologist and have a speculum inserted into the vagina. The tampon, if it is there, can easily be removed. If you have any doubts, go to your doctor. It is a quick visit. It occurs very commonly with my patients.
