Pregnancy After Placental Abruption: Risks and Considerations

Question
30 yrs old 3 children(1 died of sids on 3/22/2001) first day of last period was 12/02/2004.

My question is ..
I have had a complete placental abruption with my last child and a patial abruption with my 2nd child.  I have had one doctor tell me I should not have any more children.  My current ob/gyn tells me it is on a case by case situation and there is no reason why we cannot(there has been no known causes for the abruptions I have had except for extreme stress).  I am looking for another opinion my husband wants to have a baby and I would like to get a second opinion on this before we try this because I almost died when the last abruption occurred.  I am hoping you can be of help to us.  In your opinion can I have another child?
thank you very much for your help
sincerely

Answer
Abruptio placenta occurs on a case by case situation (as your current doctor claimed) and is not a repeatable problem (although it occurred twice in your past). There is no reason for you not to attempt another pregnancy, but it should be monitored closely. You should have serial sonography to assess the position of the placenta and you should monitor any bleeding very closely.
