Light Spotting Outside of Period: Causes & What to Do

Question
Hello.  I am little concerned of this month's period.  I'm on 30 day sycle and very regular, never had unusual bleeding. On 31st day of the cycle this month, I had very light brown spotting and 1 day of light pink spotting after. I thought it was my period starting but it stopped on the second day.  I used the home pregnancy test on 32nd day (we've been TTC) but it was negative. I don't have any noticable pregnancy sympotoms.  I had cold/fever almost 3 weeks ago and wondering that could threw up my cycle/period...?  No matter how sick I was I never had this unusual spotting.  Should I be concerned of this and see a specialist?  Could I possibly be pregnant?
2 months ago, ovulation was detected on day 16-18 but I could not track the ovulation on last cycle. If I assume it occured on day 16-18, we tried on day 14 as well as day 18. I have not tried the pregnancy test again.  I am 5 days late(if I don't count the spotting as my period)

Thank you very much for your help in advance...

Answer
Any bleeding must be considered as being your period (even spotting or brownish staining). The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period. However, sometimes, there is hormonal imbalance and you can merely have some staining instead of a full period. Keep a record of your bleeding for the next few months and if you do not get back to regular periods, discuss it with your gynecologist. However, there is nothing to worry about.
