Questionthis i my first pregnancy my last period was 11.01.05. I had a bit of bleeding went and had a ultra sound they told me that the baby was the size of a 6 weeks but the sac was only 5 weeks and said i would most likly losse it, there was a heat beat. Is there a reason to why i would not loose it, or is there a problem, with the fetus.
Thank You
Tracey
AnswerIf a fetal heartbeat was seen on sonogram, there is a good chance that the baby will survive. If your last period started on January 11, then you should now be 6 weeks gestational age. If the sonogram only showed a 5 week gestational sac, your dates may either be incorrect or the baby may not be growing adequately. If you have not had any bleeding, just repeat the sonogram in two weeks. If there is appropriate growth by then, you should not worry. However, if there is no growth in two weeks, then it probably is not a viable pregnancy. Usually, prior to 6 weeks, we do not see a fetal heartbeat on sonogram, so if they did see a fetal heartbeat, it is encouraging.
