Irregular Periods & Potential Pregnancy: What to Do?
QuestionMy husband and I have been trying for about 8 months to conceive. I started using the clear blue fertility monitor because my periods were very irregular. I had been on the pill for about 10 years and before that I had regular periods. According to the monitor I have not yet ovulated and for about 3 days I have been having some spotting. I know that can be a sign of pregnancy but I have no other symptoms and I took a test and it came back negative. Could it just be too early to tell or can something else be going on? I am 23 years old, I have no other children and my last period was on April 9 and ended April 17
Thanks
AnswerIf your last period started on April 9, then you are due for your next period on May 6. The best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your period. Take a pregnancy test on May 13. If the test is negative, you are not pregnant. Bleeding or spotting is not a sign of pregnancy. The earliest symptoms of pregnancy are amenorrhea, breast tenderness, nausea, and fatigue. If you are using an ovulation predictor kit, start testing your urine around cycle day #13 and, when the lines show up or the color changes, concentrate on having intercourse every other day for three days. If, after a full 12 months of trying to conceive, you are not successful, an infertility workup can be started. Good Luck.
