QuestionI am 25 years of age, i am wondering why i don't have my menstrual period when in fact i already have a home pregnancy test and the result was negative. I had my last period started September 10,2006 and had contact with my husband straight on the last week of September it started on the 25th.Supposed to be i'll be having my period on the 8th or 9th day of October but it missed so i took a home pregnancy test a week after, its negative. Then i tried it again on the morning of October 28 yet its still negative. Am i Pregnant? I mean is it possible to have a negative result at this point taking a home pregnancy test then probably positive along the way? Please help because im really scared about it, this is my first time to experience this thing.Since i have had a normal menstrual period and now this happens to me. it really affects me since i cannot do my usual hobbies like sports and any rigid activities because i am very much cautious about having a baby or am i sick?
AnswerHi Patsy :)
I would most definately make an appoitment to see your doctor. You said your periods are regular as a rule, up until recently. Its possible that the first test you did, could have been to early, so it came back false.
The second test, perhaps could have been because the HCG level was to low to give you an accurate result. Beleive me, this does happen. Pregnancy tests look for certain levels of the pregnancy hormone to give you an accurate result, so at times, some ladies do get false negative results.
You could try again, but this time I would do the test first thing in the morning when you wake up. You first urine is much more concentrate, so if you are indeed carrying the HCG hormone, then it will be more prominate, increasing your chances of getting a more accurate result.
Even still, having a BETA HCG blood test done, with your doctor will conclusively diagnose pregnancy, if you are pregnant.
Now, if the tests come back negative, this is most like 1 of 2 things. You could be suffering a slight hormonal imbalance. This does happen to women, and is not uncommon at all. Hormonal imbalances will cause delayed periods, absent periods, and sometimes long bleeds that never seem to stop. Most often, it corrects itself, and you wont have an issue again.
The other scenario, is that if you are under high levels of emotional stress, or have been ill with a flue, or cold, or suffered a physical trama, that will also delay your period. Physical, and emotional stress will most definatly throw a lady's cycle right off. Again, it usually figures itself out, and corrects itself.
I am sure you are just fine..I will be hoping for a positive result for you!
