Delayed Period After Stopping Birth Control: What to Expect?

Question
I am 20 years old, and I stopped taking Ortho Tri Cyclin on June 12th, due to nausea. I had been on the pill for almost one year, and was planning on starting it again as soon as I got my period, but it is August 5th and still nothing. I do know that I ovulated between July 26th and July 30th which is when I was actually expecting my period, and to my somewhat relief, would explain the delay. Even though I took 2 pregnancy tests which came out negative (the first right before I ovulated and the second this past Monday, August 1st) it would have been too soon to test even though I am almost 2 months late. Is it possible to ovulate a month late after stopping the pill? And if so, when should I take another pregnancy test? I have never been so late before after stopping the pill, why am I so late now? Thank you so much for your time and help.

Answer
If it has been two months since the first day of your last period, and a pregnancy teest on Monday was negative, you are not pregnant. YOu should not have stopped taking the pill due to nausea. If you are nauseated, take it with some food (apple sauce, etc). When you stop the pill after having been on it for so long, you can have a delay in your period. You did not mention when, exactly, your last period was (before stopping the pill), so I do not knkow if you really did ovulate around July 26. That depends on when your last period was. If you ovlated on July 26, then your last period would have been 14 days prior to that (July 12) but you claim that you did not get a period since June 12, so you could not have ovulated around July 26. I would suggest that you call your doctor and take Provera 10gm twice a day for 5 days, and you will get your period within 10 days. Then you can start birth control pills again on the Sunday after you start your period.
