Pregnancy After Abortion: Understanding Conceivement & Miscarriage Risks
QuestionI have had two abortions. One was in 2001 and the other was in 2007, I had a child which I carried to full term without any complications during pregnany between the abortions. Yet my husband and I are trying to have a child and I am having no problems conceiving yet I have had 2 miscarriages in 6 mths. Is it because I had the abortions? Both abortions were 2 two procedures cause I was around 16 weeks during both. My periods are irregular that is why I did not know sooner. Is there anything I can do to help keep from miscarrying again?
AnswerHi Dear Cala,
I can't say for sure. If the abortions were done by a doc in a medical setting this normally does not interfere with your fertility. Second trimester abortions are more difficult than abortions before week 13.
If the doc does not have enough experience and dilates the neck of the uterus too much this could influence the shutting mechanism and you could loose the baby at a too early stage.
But there are many more reasons for miscarriages.
Try, try again !
