Post-HCG Trigger Pain: Is It Normal? | Fertility Forum

Question
i am wondering if it is normal to experience pain in stomach upto 5 days after the hcg trigger shot.  I had taken the clomid days 3-5 and received the trigger shot on day 12.  My follicles were on the right 2 @20 mm and on the left 2@17mm.  I had pain on Friday day 14 and have had pain since.  We did not do iui this time.  I had an ectopic in September of this year and was treated with methotrexaite.  My doctor really did do any testing afterwords.  I didnt feel this pain after the first round of drugs in aug.  Should i be worried?

Answer
Hello Carrie from the U.S.,

Some people will feel ovulation "pain" and the amount of pain will often depend on how many follicles are ovulated.  Of course, the more follicles, the more pain.  Since you had four ovulatory sized follicles, that would explain the increased pain sensation.

At this point, I don't think you need to worry, but if the pain gets worst and becomes debilitating, then you need to be seen.  Sometimes the ruptured follicle can cause bleeding which we call a "hemorrhagic cyst" and often will need surgery to treat.  By now, however, I don't think you have that problem because it would have been within the first 24 hours.

Good Luck,
