Possible Relationship Between UTI and Irregular Periods: Seeking Medical Advice

Question
I am 19 years old.  I have no children.  August 17, 2005 was the first day of my last menstrual cycle.

My boyfriend and I were dry humping two Thursdays ago with both our underwear on and noone peeking through. We also put layers of paper towels inbetween us. After I orgasmed, he didn't, I wiped myself with that paper towel but can not remember if I wiped with his side of the towel that he was on. When we looked at his boxers, we noticed little wet spots that looked fresh, like they were there after he got off. Is it possible for sperm to be alive IF it got on a paper towel and could it have gone in me? I'm not for sure though if there was anything on the paper towel or if I had wiped with his side. Also, I was suppose to start last Wednesday, but I am also irregular. I started 3 days early last month, so does that suggest I'll be 3 days late this month? Or just because I'm worrying and stressing over this incident that I'll be late anyway?

If it would have gotten on the paper towel, would there have been a chance of the sperm getting inside me? And I thought sperm died once it touched the air? Is that true?

I took a test yesterday around 9:00p or so and it came back negative.  I am going to take another this Friday to double check.  Any help will be very appreciative! Thanks so much!

Answer
Spem do not live very well on "fomites" (paper towels, cloth, clothing, tables, etc). In order for sperm to be viable, they have to be in a moist enviromnment. I doubt that his sperm survived on the paper towel. Furthermore, if youor last period started on August 17, you would not have ovulated until September 3 and could only have conceived if you had sex on Septmber 2,3,4, or 5. If you did insert the penis into the vagina, and tried to withdraw it prior to ejaculation, sperm can be milked into the vagina and you can conceive if it is on one of your fertile days. In addition, if some sperm got on your vulva or vagina and it was moist, the sperm can swim into the vagina and you can become pregnant. However, I doubt that the sperm would be effective if you were "dry humping" and your underwear was dry. If you are going to continue to fool around, it would be prudent for you to start birth control pills. Then you will be "safe" all the time.
