QuestionRight after sex, a lot of liquid leaks out of me. We are trying to conceive and even elevating my hips doesn't stop the leakage. Is there sperm still left to help me become pregnant? I heard that the cervix is tiny for entrance, could this be the problem? Also, if this helps *I stopped the pill on the April 4th, had a birth control induced period on the 8th. I'm currently getting small, stringy clear discharge, could I be ovulating? Thank so much!
AnswerDear Katie,
The abundant, stringy, cervical mucus - like an egg whites consistency - is indicative of impending ovulation. It usually begins the week before ovulation happens and continues through ovulation day.
As for the leakage - this happens with everyone. There is almost ALWAYS leakage of seminal fluid after sex. Elevating your hips may not prevent it altogether but it cannot hurt in the process of trying to get pregnant. Gravity will get those sperm cells headed down in the right direction from the very start. Some men ejaculate more than others, but you can always expect some amount of leakage. There are an average of about 250-500 million sperm cells in a single ejaculation. And a sperm cell is microscopic. So, the fact that our cervical opening is so small makes very little difference to all those little bitty sperm cells once they are released. Even if you leaked out 3/4 of the amount of semen, that would still leave almost a million or more sperm cells trying to get to one single egg.
I hope this has helped you and answered your question. I wish you well.
