Pregnancy from Water Contact: Myth vs. Reality - Symptoms & Concerns
QuestionI think this is probably a riddiculous question...but I have heard myths about the ability to get pregnant from merely swimming where a male has ejaculated. I am a virgin, but my period is almost 2 weeks late and there is no reason for it. I haven't had a drastic weight change or anything like that. I am wondering if there is anyway I could be pregnant because I was in a lake with my boyfriend and we were holding each other and I could tell he had an erection and doubt be ejaculated...but if he did, I could be pregnant, right? This might be far fetched...but I just want to know why I haven't had my period.
Thank You
AnswerIt is very unlikely that you could have conceived from sperm swimming in a lake and into your vagina. However, if you have any doubts, take a pregnancy test since you are already two weeks late for your period. Most likely, you merely had an anovulatory cycle and have some hormonal imbalance. If the pregnancy test is negative, and you do not get your period within a month, ask your doctor to induce your period for you with Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days and you should get your period within 10 days. If you have a normal 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. You can only become pregnant if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #13,14,15, or 16 each month. If his sperm got on your moist thigh and swam into the vagina at exactly the time of ovulation, theoretically it is possible to conceive. However, it is highly unlikely due to the temperature of the water and the amount of water. A pregnancy test will let you know for sure.
