Post-Miscarriage Bleeding & Irregular Periods: What to Know

i just had a miscarriage in January. i was 5 months pregnant.
i had unprotected sex and my period was march 16, 2010 and it lasted 4 days. my next period was April 2, 2010 and lasted 6 days. i didn't have to get a d&c. can you tell me what it could be? the first two days my period is really heavy. and then its really like the rest of the days.

Most probably this is not a period. Rather, it is likely to be what is known as postabortive bleeding. The most important reason for it, is retained products of conception such as a retained piece/fragment of placenta or membranes.

Therefore, my advice is to get a pelvic ultrasound to make sure that your uterus is empty. If so, medical treatment will control these irregularities. If there are retained products, a D&C is mandatory.
