Nubane and Pregnancy: Potential Developmental Concerns?
Question
I was given Nubane right before I gave birth and they kept telling me they did not want to do that because the baby was going to be coming very quickly. I wanted it anyway. My daughter is now experiencing developement delays and I am wondering if this could be a factor? She is 8 months old. Thank you.
AnswerNo congenital defects have been reported in humans following the use of Nubane in pregnancy. Nubane has both narcotic agonist and antagonist effects. Prolonged use during pregnancy could theoretically result in fetal addiction with subsequent withdrawal in the newborn. Use of the drug in labor may produce fetal distress and neonatal respiratory depression comparable to that produced by Demeral. Nubane crosses the placenta to the fetus. I have no further information other than this. I doubt that it would have caused any developmental problems.
