QuestionHello. I am a 28 year old female who is overweight. I was diagnosed with mild Lymphodema about two years ago (due to swelling in my feet, ankles, and some in my lower leg. the swelling was usually equal in both legs, though I have noticed lately the swelling to be greater in my left limb) and told to wear support hose during the day and to take them off at night. For about the last year, I have not worn the support hose every day. I have only worn them in fits and starts.
I was taking birth control for about 7 years when my doctor took me off of the pill this past October, saying I didn't need to be on them. I called him two weeks ago and requested to be put back on them as my face, neck, and back have really been breaking out.
I have now been back on Mircette birth control after being off of it for about five months. During the time I was off of the pill, I would have some swelling in my feet and ankles, but nothing too severe. This week the swelling got worse and worse. It was terrible last night after working a long day and not getting much sleep..really being on my feet for a very lengthy period of time. I am trying to figure out today whether the major swelling in my limb (foot, and ankle mainly, some in lower leg) means that I can not take birth control pills..or can it just be a coincidence made worse by being on my feet without them elevated for such a lengthy period.
I now have put the support stockings on but am worried about the swelling.
Can you take birth control if you have edema/Lymphodema? Thank you,
J
AnswerJ;
prolonged skin swelling can lead to tissue damage,so its important to bring it under control quickly.
this sounds like something more is causing this to happen.
you may need a water pill,to help with this swelling. how is your blood pressure? do you know?
