QuestionI had a LEEP done in September 2003, and a cone biopsy in August 2004. The results of the cone biopsy were the margins were not clear, however I have had 4 normal pap smears since then. My doctor gave me the go ahead to get pregnant, and I just had a baby last week (he was born at 34 weeks due to cervical shortening.) He is my first child.
My question is...soon I will have my pap at my postpartum, is it likely for the abnormal cervical cells to return right away b/c of changes in the cervix? I did have 2 paps done during pregnancy, the last one was in July. I have my next one in a few weeks.
Thank you,
Kathleen
AnswerThere is no reason to suspect that the postpartum PAP smear will be abnormal, since you had four normal PAPs and two during pregnancy. If the PAP is abnormal, I would recommend a colposcopy first (or a LEEP) now that you are no longer pregnant. There is no reason for you to have an abnormal PAP postpartum.
