Cervical Cancer Risk & Post-Coital Bleeding: A Medical Inquiry
Questioni am 26, have 1 child, date of last period was 8/15/05 and last 8/18/05. i take bc pills and have for 7 years.
my question is would it be considered rare for a person to have cervical cancer after 8 consecutive annual, normal pap test? the reason i ask is i am having light spotting after sex and for 1 to 2 days later i have a brownish light discharge(like old blood) i have spoken to my doc and she doesn't say much but, i just keep thinking i have cervical cancer or something. i have read about cervical ectropion but wouldn't my doc have noticed this before now?(i haven't had an exam for this specific problem, but ihave had an annual exam.)is there something i need to have her do like a test or something? this has been going on for 2 1/2 years, just the occasionly spotting.(if it were cancer or something bad, wouldn't i have other more obviouse symptoms by now? also we have very infrequent sex.like every 3 to 4 months
AnswerLight spotting after sex is not a sign of cervical cancer. As long as your PAP smears have been within normal limits, you do not have cervical cancer. Heavy bleeding right after sex certainly warrants an exam. However, if the PAP remains negative, there is no cancer.
