Postpartum Period Irregularities & D&C Recovery: What to Expect
QuestionI am 23 and i had my first child 16 weeks ago in september, in november 10 weeks ago i had a lot of blood loss and had to go into hospital and have a D&C as i had retained placenta left inside me. That all cleared up and now i am waiting for my period! i dont breastfeed and never have so thats not the reason, but at the moment i have a dull ache down there doesnt hurt but it is there! i have checked ovulation with the testers and i am not ovulating!
I am so confused! my doc says as i had the heavy bleed i should wait 2 more months for my period but i am worried it will never come and i wont be able to have anymore children
please help me
AnswerThere is no reason to suspect that you will never get your period again. Be patient. If you are frustrated, your doctor can induce your period for you with Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days and you should get your period within 10 days. It is not unusual to have a delay in returning to a regular cycle after a D&C for retained placental tissue. The D&C may have been performed vigorously and the lining if the uterus (endometrium) may be denuded. In order to get a period (which is actually the sloughing off of the endometrium) you have to wait for the lining of the uterus to regenerate. This is controlled by estrogen and sometimes takes a few months to rejuvenate itself. Don't worry.
