I am 22 yrs old and just gave birth to Twin girls on May 27, 2005. They are my only children. I had a period two weeks after they were born starting on June 14 and lasting until June 19, only six day. Before I was pregnant, my periods only lasted about 5-6 days. I havent had a period since. My husband and I had sex three weeks later on July 6. It was a little uncomfortable so we havent tried it since. I haven't had a period since June and it is now August 1! I was wondering how soon after having a baby you are able to get pregnant again and also if you had sex during your period and you got pregnant then, would your period stop right then or would it continue for a day or two? How many days after an egg is fertilized does your cervix close?

You can conceive if you ovulate. Usually, after a delivery, you will return to your period in around 6-8 weeks following the delivery. The bleeding that you had on June 14, may have been a period or may merely have been some post-partum bleeding. Once your uterus is firm, the cervix should close on its own. It has nothing to do with whether the egg has been fertilized or not. Once you get your period, you usually ovulate fourteen days later, and can conceive once that occurs. YOu cannot become pregnant if you have sex during your period. If you have a normal 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14 and you can only become pregnant if you have unprotected sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. If you have not had your period since the baby was born (except on June 14), first take a pregnancy test and then ask your doctor to induce your period for you using Provera 10mg twice a day for 5 days and you should get your period within ten days. AnswerThere is no medical contraindication in becoming pregnant right away after delivering a baby. YOu may be very tired and it may be difficult to take care of two infants. However, a second pregnancy and delivery right after delivering a baby, is healthy.
