Understanding Your Cycle: Spotting & Period Start - Dr. Rappaport

Question
Just a question that I can't seem to find an answer for Dr Rappaport...
I have a fairly regular 28/29 day cycle but a couple of days prior to commencing what I determine as my "actual period" my discharge tends to be a pale brown/red..but not bloody.  This almost always has been the case (I am 30) and something I just utilise as a precursor to my period (Crikey, tell me if I am wrong here!)
My question is...Do I take this as the commencement of my cycle or when actual bleeding (and cramping) begins to occur?
AND...is there ever a possibility of experiencing "morning sickness" almost from conception?
Many thanks for your assistance.
Regards
Jane

Answer
The first day you see any bleeding at all is considered cycle day #1. Otherwise you will go crazy in determining when your cycle starts and if the brownish blood is "new" blood or "old" blood from a previous cycle that had not come out of the uterus. If you have a normal 28 day cyclek ovulation occurs on cycle day #14 and you can conceive if you have sex on cycle day #13,14,15, or 16. If you do conceive on one of those days, the earliest symptoms of pregnancy (almost immediately after conception) are fatigue, nausea, and breast tenderness. A pregnancy test will not show a positive result until 14-21 days after conception and the best time to take a pregnancy test is seven days after missing your next period.
