Cold During Early Pregnancy: Safe Treatment Options

Question
Hi I am three to four weeks pregnant and I have
come down with a small virus. I went to my family
doctor and he gave me a perscription for amoxicillen and I know antibiotics are not good for the baby and I was wondering if I am better off taking vitamins (vitamin C). I am not on prenatal vitamins yet and I not be going to see
my obgyn for another week so what should I do.

Answer
Amoxicillin is perfectly safe for use during pregnancy. However, if you have a virus, you do not need antibiotics. Just drink plenty of water, keep your temperature below 101 degrees F with Tynelol, and keep warm. A virus will go away within a week. If you are 3-4 weeks pregnant, you should start your antenatal vitamins. You do not have to see your obstetrician until 8 weeks from the first day of your last period. Good Luck.
