QuestionHello, I am a 30 year old female with ovulation problems. I just completed my third round of clomid and on day 14 we had three folicles: one at 20, one at 16 and one at 14. We did the IUI and 2 weeks later had a positive preg. test. I'm feeling nauseous, tired, my breasts are sore and larger, and my face has broken out.
However, the fertility clinic is concerned about my HCG levels and I would love your advice. Day 16 after ovulation was 60.5, day 18 was 98 (60% growth), day 20 (today) was 176.5 (80% growth) and I am going back for more blood work in 48 hours. The clinic said I could have either an abnormal pregnancy or a tubal pregnancy. What do you think based on my numbers?
Also, another of my friends had a miscarriage due to low progesterone levels. My dr has not checked these. Should I push for this during my upcoming appointment? Thank you and I appreciate any advice you can offer ;)
AnswerHello,
Typically, HCG numbers double every two or three days. Your numbers are certainly increasing which is a good sign. They didn't necessarily double, but that alone does not indicate a tubal or abnormal pregnancy. The best way to know is to get an ultrasound once you are 6 weeks along. If a heartbeat is seen, then you will know everything is OK. It might be a good idea to ask about progesterone testing, especially given your concerns. Good luck.
