Pregnancy After C-Section: Risks, Timeline & What to Expect
QuestionI am 22 years old. I have 1 daughter, she is 4 months old. I have been breastfeeding her so I haven't had a period, only some spotting about 1-2 months ago, maybe. I delivered my baby via c-section (my passageway was too small to fit her, only a 10% chance she would come out of me) and my doctor told me to wait 2 years between deliveries. I am not sure why. I am concerned because I suspect that I may be pregnant again and I do not know what to think about it. I do not know if it is something to worry about since it has not been long enough yet. I really do not believe in abortion either. Should I be worried? What can happen if I am pregnant? I would appreciate your help. Thank you very much.

AnswerACOG (American College of ObGyn) recommends that a woman who has had a cesarean section should not consider having a vaginal delivery (VBAC) until 18 months after the original cesarean. HOwever, if you find yourself pregnant, and the baby will be born within 18 months from the cesarean, schedule a repeat cesarean section for 37-38 weeks gestation., There is no other risk for this pregnancy. The risk of uterine rupture at the site of the previous incision (in the uterus) is 1%. (That means that one woman in 100 can rupture her uterus at the previous scar).
