Molar Pregnancy Recovery: When is it Safe to Try Again?

Question
I AM 31 YS. OLD AND HAVE A 3 YR. OLD. I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A PARTIAL MOLAR PREGNANCY IN JUNE 2004. MY LEVELS ARE NOW NEGATIVE. LAST MONTH THEY WERE 3, AND THE MONTHS BEFORE THAT 5 AND 7. MY DOCTOR IS NOW STARTING MY 6 MONTH WAITING PERIOD. I HAVE READ THAT ANYTHING <5 IS CONSIDERED 0. IS THIS TRUE AND AND WOULD IT BE SAFE FOR ME TO TRY IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. WHAT IF MY DOCTOR DOESN'T AGREE? IS THERE ANY STUDIES ON WOMEN WHO DID NOT WAIT TO CONCEIVE 6-12 MONTHS AFTER A MOLAR? THANK YOU, DREA

Answer
In most laboratories, an HCG level of less than 5 is considered a negative value and is equivalent to zero. Once your levels have dropped below 5, you can star the six months waiting period and then start trying to conceive once more. The six month waiting period is to avoid the possibility of recurrence. By the way, in future pregnancies, always have the doctors send your placenta down for pathological evaluation after the baby is born. I don't think you have too much to worry about with a partial molar pregnancy. Good Luck.
