Birth Control & Period Delay: Safe Options After Childbirth

Question
I am 37 years old and have 3 children.  My youngest is 22 months old.  She is still breastfeeding 1 to 2 times daily.

I was informed that I may use birth control pills again at this time but have yet to start.  The date of my last period was May 2.  The date of my next period coincides with a planned vacation (June 1st).

Prior to my children, I was using Ortho Novum 777 28 for years.  If I start using these pills will they be able to delay my next period?  If so, when should I start and should I expect spotting / bleeding?

Thank you.

Answer
If your last period started on May 2, you should have started the birth control pills on Sunday May 7. Now you will have to wait for your next period (May 29) and start on the Sunday after you first start bleeding. Then, take  pills #1-21 and, the very next day, start a new pack. Do not take the placebos ( pill #22-28). You should not get your period. When you want your period, merely stop taking the pills. Then start a new pack on the following Sunday. Remember that birth control pills will lower the amount of breast milk. Good Luck.
