QuestionI am 39 weeks pregnant and lost my mucous plug last week. Can I still do the following safely:
-Have sex
-Swim
-Take baths
We heard that these were not safe after the loss of the mucous plug due to risk of infection. Is this true?
AnswerThe loss of the mucus (bloody show) is merely the loss of the plug that was protecting the baby. It usually comes out at around 38 weeks and is a sign of impending labor. You can still have sex, go swimming, or take baths. However, if you break your water (rupture of fetal membranes),, you should refrain from swimming, baths, or sex.
