Question
I am taking birth conrol pills and have taken a pregnancy test that turned out to be positive.
should I stop taking the pills? I had a normal period last month what are the chances I have done any damadge to the baby?

Answer
Hi Robin :)

Yes,you need to come off your pills immediately. Being pregnant now, taking added hormones can only cause confusion with your body. Keep in mind, that when finishing a cycle of pills, your body has a period that is induced. So the last thing we want, is a hormonally induced period, especially when you are pregnant. It can lead to some complications, with bleeding and such.

Also, you are at risk to throw your hormones completely off track, by taking your pills. So its time now to let mother nature take over, and just let your body function naturally.

If you just found out your pregnant recently, its highly unlikely that any fetal damage has been done, due to the intake of hormones. But if you are still taking the pill, you must stop now, and call your doctor, or see a physician immediately to confirm your pregnancy.

Don't be surprised if you are farther along in your pregnancy then you think. Remember, the pill induces a period ..so really it could be hard to really know when you got pregnant :)

That happened to me. I was on the Depo Provera shot. I was religious about getting the shot on time, and I made sure I did. I had absolutely not signs of pregnancy at all. I missed my period here and there, but that is a side effect of the shot, so I thought nothing of it.

It was one day, when I got outta the shower, and noticed my nipples looked darker then normal. It really sent alarms off. I did a Home test, it came back positive. I went to the doctor, he confirmed it.

I figured, I had to be about 4 weeks, considering I just noticed the colour difference on my breasts.

Well, I went for the sonogram, and found out I was actually 16 weeks. You can imagine my shock ..lol

So, its essential you contact your doctor, and get your blood tests, for your HCG levels, and a sonogram to determine gestational age :)

Hope this is of some help :) And thanks for writing!
