Pregnancy Symptoms & Period: Could You Still Be Pregnant?

Question
Hey Kristy i wanted to ask you a question i thought i was pregnant because i had all the pregnancy symtoms but i started my period today. Could i still be pregnant?

Answer
Hi Anaissa!

Often, when women are experiencing PMS, they will take on the symptoms of pregnancy. Any hormonal change in the body, such as PMS will mimic the symptoms of pregnancy.

However, some women when they are pregnant will experience what is known as implantation bleeding. This is often confused to be a period, because it often comes around the time a woman is due to have her period. Implantaion bleeding is usually a dark brown in colour. Its spotty, or very light and lasts for about 2-3 days. So it could be considered to some, as a very abnormal period. It also is associated with mild period like cramping. So for many women, they dont realize they are pregnant, because they beleive they are just having a "funny" period.

If you notice that this period you are having is abnormal, then it would be smart to do a test. Its advised to do the test in the morning, while your urine is more concentrate. So if you are indeed carrying the pregnancy hormone, it would be more prominate, giving you a  reliable result.

Now, if your bleeding is a regular flow, or what you would consider to be the norm for you, then its most likely you are not pregnant at all, and just had a more severe case of pms, causing you the symptoms you experienced.

Hope this is of some help, and thanks for writing!
