Ovulation to Conception: Understanding Timing & Chances

Question
I've e-mailed you a couple times that I thought I could be pregnant. My periods are not regular which is why I've started taking ov tests my first day of my last period was Oct 2nd, I got an positive ov test on Oct 29th had intercourse day before,of, and after. I kept testing and was still getting positives until wedensday and I was having the stretchy egg white discharge I've read  what to look for. But we no longer had sex until the following weekend which makes me wonder if we should of kept having sex everyother day for a week after ovulation while I was still getting the discharge? I got my period this morning. Did I not have enough intercourse? I also heard there's only a 33% chance of conceiving even on your most fertile date is that true? Or did I just miss it some how? Also what would you recommend for this month when I get another positive on the ov test (hopefully)?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Rebecca :)

Everything you did was just fine. You had sex right before, the day of, and after ovulation. Sperm lives for 3-4 days, so there still where swimmers there waiting even days after the fact.

Even though you did everything right, it doesnt neccessarily mean you are going to get pregnant. It just increases your chances of conception considerably, and I guaretee you, its alot higher then 33%:)

It's hit and miss Rebecca, and there is no exact reason as to why. However, in some cases, I have heard that when ladies have a positive result for ovulation, they actually dont release the egg until 2 days later. So that definately, could be a possibility.

When you get your next positive on the test, I would have sex every other day, and do it for about a week. By waiting every other day, you allow your husbands sperm count to double, even triple. Dont worry about missing a day. As I said, sperm lives for 3-4 days. So his swimmers will still be inside there scoping out your egg. The rest, is up to mother nature :)

And dont worry ..You will get pregnant, without a doubt. It could be this month, or it could be 3 months from now. But it will happen!

Hope this is of some help :)
