Provera and Bleeding: Understanding Spotting & Irregular Periods

Question
it is normal to have a period with reddish to black staining, and can this be a problem or some form of irregular period or pregnancy.

Answer
Hi Meaka,

Provera is given in attempt to an induce a period, when a period has been absent for some time, or is extremely irregular.

Its not uncommon to spot, and see abnormal bleeding patterns when taking this drug. This is all due to the hormonal changes taking place in your system in attempt of regulating a period. These discharges, are all symptomatic of hormonal imbalance.

You can still get pregnant, and its highly unlikely that it will have a direct, adverse effect on a pregnancy if one where to occur.

Often, women on Provera will need dosage changes, when their goal is to get a regular period. Sometimes physicians will up the dose, and may shorten the length of time taken, or they may prescribe it to be taken longer. It depends on the individual, and the reaction to the drug.

I hope this answers your question, and thanks for writing!
