Managing Your Period While on Birth Control: What to Expect

Question
I am going away for a weekend, and was hoping to avoid getting my period, which is when it would normally come.  I am on the pill.  If I stop taking the active pills a few days early, will that induce my period early?  And if I do that, will the pill continue to be effective birth control the next month?  Thanks!

Answer
Hi,

If you stop taking the active pills a few days early this will cause the normal withdrawal bleeding. I recommend that you rather take some extra active pills from the next pack rather than doing this as you may not be protected against pregnancy by not taking those last pills in the pack. There is a sheet with instructions for how to delay your period in the pill box. There is all the information you have to know about postponing the withdrawal bleeding.

Good luck! :-)
